Kullu Valley Tourism

Kullu is a broad open vale formed by the Beas River between Manali and Larji. This vale is notorious for its tabernacles, beauty and its majestic hills covered with Pine and Deodar Forest and sprawling Apple Vineyards.

Kullu was before known as Kulant pith meaning’ the ending point of livable world’. The beautiful vale is also mentioned in epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata and Vishnu Purana. Chinese rubberneck Huien Tsang visited Kullu in 634 or 635 announcement and described it as a region fully girdled by mountains. The place had a stupa erected by Asoka.

In ancient days Kullu had several Buddhist cloisters. There were Hindu tabernacles too and people of both faiths lived peacefully together.

Then’s the core of an intricate web of multitudinous denes – each of which is a visual delight and seems more beautiful than the other. The mountain scapes remain spectacular whether in brilliant sun or in the haze of the mist.

The city of Kullu has long been a centre of devotion and faith.

In the 17th century, Raja Jagat Singh installed then hero of Lord Raghunathji, which he brought from Ayodhya. As a mark of his penance, he placed the hero on his throne and it came the presiding deity of the vale

It’s home to multitudinous ancient tabernacles, some notorious, others perched deep in the hills and therefore known only to the locals.

In fact, every vill in Kullu has its own deity, clinging to their different set of rituals for some centuries now. A number of townlets have the main icons sculpted out of solid gold,

with the icons serving as vill heads as well, intertwined in the diurnal life of the people then. Those in the know will also be privy to the fact that the divinities are housed in hallowed structures, generally the loftiest structure in the vill.

Kullu is notorious for its fests during Dussehra( September – October), when the story of the grand lyric Ramayana is reenacted.

The city is a gateway to the scenic Kullu Valley, which extends northward to the source of the Beas River at Rohtang Pass. Pop.( 2001),306;( 2011),536.

The land is also replete with numerous legends associated with the Pandavas, who are believed to have spent a part of their exile in the vale.

The Hidimba tabernacle in Manali, the Shangchool Mahadev tabernacle in Sainj, and the Dev Dhank in Nirmand are believed to be associated with the Pandavas.

According to one legend, one of the Pandavas, Bhimsen killed a strong and cruel demon Hadimb and married his family Hadimba,
